What a City!

This is a fascinating well-balanced and full of anecdotes story about different cities of the world. Anything but encyclopaedic. There are large, flourishing metropolises and deserted cities in the world, there are places on the slopes of mountains, in the desert, and even on water… People feel great in some places because they are friendly and safe, while from other cities people run away. This is a tale of their history and architecture as well as unknown facts that affected the fate of their inhabitants. Each story is an expedition into the unknown, towards the sources of our civilization, its achievements, and failures. 41 cities: from the Asian Beirut, through the African Timbuktu, to Bodie, an American ghost town. The author presents “urbanity” in various ways, not avoiding the urgent problems posed by modern times like smog and the war in Syria. For a change, the illustrator is very consistent in his illustrations. His works, very geometric and narrative, look like an independent computer game.
