Three Wishes

What could a Golden Fish ask people for? The authors alter the flow of the well-known fairy tale “The Fisherman and His Wife” to answer the following question: What do animals dream about in the 21st century? This time, the fish will make three wishes. What kind of wishes? Can we fulfil them?

The story begins with an introduction to the lake’s underwater ecosystem and its inhabitants. We meet them at breakfast or when they are chatting and enjoying a pleasant morning. Their lives appear to be going on normally, but it soon becomes clear that many changes are occurring in the water. Recently, a carp experienced indigestion after consuming a red plastic straw. And this isn’t a unique incident. According to the Golden Fish, people have entirely forgotten that the world does not belong to them exclusively and that they must care for it. The book can serve as an excellent starting point for discussions about how to see nature and how to prevent environmental damage on a daily basis. It encourages imagination and stimulates empathy for nature and its inhabitants, even the smallest ones.
