Mountains of Sadness
This graphic novel, inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s classic tale, follows Professor Howard Pym and his Antarctic expedition as they uncover the grim fate of a previous mission. In 1932, just before departure, Pym receives a notebook from a stranger who asks him to read it before reaching their destination. He forgets about the gift until the ship crosses the polar circle, only to discover that it is the journal of the earlier expedition. As he reads it, Pym gradually uncovers horrifying truths and a secret from which there is no escape—one that awaits him and his companions at the South Pole.
This adaptation offers a fresh take on Lovecraft’s mythos. While the original novel is known for its dense language and sense of cosmic dread, this version transforms that atmosphere into a more accessible and visually engaging form, with bright, vivid artwork that strikingly contrasts the traditionally dark tone of Lovecraft’s universe.
