Coloured Scarf
A new student has joined the class. He wears strange clothes and has his own opinions and routines. He doesn’t bother making pals. As if he didn’t care about anyone. He is undoubtedly unusual, or at least very different from others. Oh, he is so hard to figure out… Besides, is it worthwhile? You can see it’s not going to be easy… However, talking to him is so tempting… Who has it more difficult? The newcomer, or the other students of the class? Usually, the “others” have more strength in a group. But, is this the case?
Barbara Kosmowska’s book includes two short stories, “Colourful Scarf” and “Strange Pants,” that tackle the issues of prejudice, categorising, lack of empathy, and openness to others. Each suggestively depicts what can happen when we fix our sight on the tip of our own nose for too long.
