An unusual, poetic story about twins who were separated shortly after birth, and went to Polish and Jewish families. And then World War II broke out…

Their different fortunes are intertwined, showing the young reader simply and beautifully that all people are equal.

It is not a realistic story, although the story takes place during the war.

The author does not dazzle with the fear and cruelty of those times, she subtly draws a portrait of her protagonists and makes their story timeless. She talks about difficult things in an accessible way, without simplifying or underestimating anything.

The archetype of both Hanias was the author’s mother.
